Dr. Karunamurthy is a board-certified molecular genetic pathologist and dermatopathologist, practicing at both molecular diagnostics and dermatopathology clinical sign out services at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Karunamurthy is the medical director of UPMC Dermatopathology Laboratory, core leader of Biospecimen Core, Melanoma & Skin Cancer SPORE program at UPMC and leads NIH’s HubMAP Skin Tissue Mapping Center from Pittsburgh as principal investigator. Dr. Karunamurthy's research intersts focus on genomics in solid tumors diagnostics especially in melanomas, soft tissue neoplasms and cutaneous lymphomas using molecular imaging, spatial transcriptomics and digital pathology applications. Dr. Karunamurthy actively participates and volunteers at many national dermatopathology and molecular pathology societies and annual meetings.
