Dylan Barfield is a Staff Software Technical Product Manager at Illumina where he co-leads product strategy and development for Connected Insights, Illumina’s oncology interpretation and reporting solution. With over seven years at Illumina, Dylan brings deep experience in bioinformatics, software engineering, and product management to the development of precision oncology bioinformatics tools.
Dylan's work focuses on automating clinical report generation, optimizing user experience design, and integrating diverse knowledge sources. He also leads efforts to encode and automate clinical guidelines—including WHO and ELN for AML classification and risk stratification, and ClinGen/CGC/VICC for oncogenicity assessment—to enhance reporting accuracy and scalability.
Dylan holds a Master of Science in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University. Prior to his current role, he held multiple engineering and product roles at Illumina and served as an adjunct professor in biology and chemistry.
