Postdoctoral Fellow
TUBITAK UME
Sumeyra Sanal Demirci, Ph.D. is a postdoctoral researcher at the National Metrology Institute of Turkey (TÜBİTAK UME), Bioanalysis Laboratory. Her research focuses on the development of certified reference materials (CRMs) to support the standardization and quality assurance of cfDNA isolation in liquid biopsy applications. She has designed and characterized synthetic cfDNA fragments to improve traceability and reproducibility in nucleic acid isolation and quantification. Currently, she is extending this work to develop reference materials enabling SI-traceable DNA methylation measurements in pre-analytical workflows.
Dr. Sanal Demirci is involved in the European project GenomeMET: Metrology for Genomic Profiling to Support Early Cancer Detection and Precision Medicine, where she contributes to the development of metrology-based tools for genomic standardization. She also mentors graduate students and young researchers in nucleic acid measurement and PCR-based studies.
She is a full member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, and serves as a reviewer and judge at international scientific events. Outside the lab, she enjoys traveling, exploring new cultures, and engaging in scientific outreach. At AMP 2025, she will present her recent work on cfDNA isolation reference materials designed to enhance harmonization across laboratories and ensure accurate nucleic acid measurements in molecular pathology applications.
