John is an entrepreneur & early stage biotech executive with over 20 years of experience founding & leading companies & commercializing novel technologies. Signal Bioscience, founded in April 2023, is developing a new class of reagents to control and amplify reactions in molecular diagnostics. Prior to Signal, John was Founder & CEO of RapidBio, a clinical diagnostics lab located at the Michigan Innovation & Life Science Research Center (MLSIC). RapidBio launched in April of 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and processed over 300,000 clinical samples from its own drive through facility at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, a network of 95 pharmacies, and over 50 schools and businesses in the Detroit metro area. At its peak, RapidBio employed over 100 people across its lab and sample collection operations. Prior to RapidBio, John served as COO of Functional Fluidics, a Wayne State University spinout developing novel blood function assays for Sickle Cell Disease patients. He has worked as a consultant for Techtown, Ann Arbor Spark, and the Ann Arbor Angels, and was a Mentor in Residence at Wayne State University and a New Business Development Specialist with the University of Michigan Office of Technology Transfer. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BA from Carleton College in Northfield, MN.
