Lead Development Technologist
Cleveland Clinic
Frank is a development technologist in the Molecular Diagnostics division of the Molecular Pathology and Cytogenomics section of the Cleveland Clinic. He was one of the first people hired into the role of development technologist at the Clinic in 2008, and he has led development in the areas of molecular oncology, molecular hematopathology, and molecular genetics on multiple platforms for 17 years. His duties in the laboratory include initial test selection, feasibility testing, all phases of test validation, creation of analysis algorithms, authoring of protocols and support documentation, training of laboratory personnel and staff, final implementation into the laboratory, and ongoing test support.
Frank graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Zoology but discovered a passion for laboratory work during his first job at Case Western Reserve University, studying the PEPCK promoter. His time in the lab has included research into modifiers of cystic fibrosis, preliminary gene transfer experimentation, IL-10 promoter studies, and, after joining the Cleveland Clinic in 2006, PTEN research. Despite changing roles in his career, Frank has retained his love for basic laboratory work and finds his greatest satisfaction in training the next generation of laboratory scientists.
