Senior specialists in biodiagnostics
Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol
My name is Laura Arnaldo, and I am a highly motivated bioinformatics and genetics professional with a robust academic background and specialized experience in both clinical diagnostics and biomedical research.
I hold a BSc in Genetics and a MSc in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biomedicine, both from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). To further specialize in computational analysis, I also completed a MSc in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).
My professional career began in 2020 at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), where I worked as an Advanced Laboratory Technician in the Genomics and Transcriptomics of Synucleinopathies (GTS) group. In this role, I performed various molecular techniques to characterize patients with neurodegenerative diseases.
Since 2022, I have worked as a Biodiagnostics Specialist in the Pathology Department at the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. In this clinical position, my primary responsibility is the analysis of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data from somatic cancer patients. I manage and interpret data for a wide range of tumors—including lung, colon, breast, melanoma, GIST, glioblastomas, and lymphomas—and am responsible for the classification of identified genetic variants to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
In parallel with my role at the hospital, I am a fourth-year PhD student at the IGTP, continuing my research within the same GTS group where I previously worked. My doctoral work focuses on analyzing the platelet transcriptome in patients with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), Parkinson's Disease (PD), Idiopathic REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (IRBD), and Alzheimer's Disease (AD).
