RESIDENT PHYSICIAN
WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER
VALHALLA, New York, United States
Dr. Tasleem Banu is a third-year pathology resident at Westchester Medical Center, New York. She earned her M.B.B.S. from Deccan College of Medical Sciences and her M.D. in Pathology from Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences, India. With over 11 years of experience, she has practiced as an attending pathologist in India and Saudi Arabia. In India, she served six years as an Assistant Professor of Pathology, teaching medical students and training residents, and later worked as a Specialist Clinical Pathologist at Ar Rass General Hospital, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Her interest in the molecular pathogenesis of disease—across both solid organ and hematolymphoid pathology—sparked during medical school and inspired her move to the United States to further specialize in molecular diagnostics and precision oncology. Her academic focus includes molecular pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and translational cancer genomics, and she will be joining Mount Sinai Medical Center as a Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellow (2027–2028).
Dr. Banu has presented at major meetings, including CAP 2025 (“Molecular and Methylation Profiling of Gliomas”), ACLP (“Clinicopathological and Molecular Analysis of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma”), and AMP 2025, where she will present “Clinicopathological and Molecular Profile of STK11-Mutated Lung Cancers.”
Her current research examines STK11/LKB1-mutated non–small cell lung cancers, focusing on their genomic alterations, immune-cold phenotype, and implications for therapy resistance. She identified STK11 mutations in 6.3% of NSCLC cases, often co-occurring with KRAS, ROS1, MET, or ALK mutations. These findings highlight the need for comprehensive genomic profiling and novel chemo-immunotherapy strategies for this molecularly distinct subgroup.
An associate and resident member of AMP, Dr. Banu is eager to contribute through research, education, and volunteer opportunities within the organization.
