Dr. Ting Zhao is a surgical pathology fellow specializing in genitourinary pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School. She will pursue a Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowship at Harvard Medical School from 2026 to 2027. She graduated from a leading medical school in China and pursued translational research in molecular medicine and genitourinary pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of Michigan prior to residency training at MGH.
Her research interests focus on integrating histological findings and molecular alterations to advance the understanding of genitourinary tumors. She has examined rare entities such as urothelial carcinoma with myxoid and chordoid features and primary urethral adenocarcinoma, conducted spatial transcriptomic profiling of aggressive prostate and bladder cancer subtypes (ongoing), explored novel gene fusions in prostate cancer and primary renal neoplasms (ongoing), and investigated the therapeutic potential of histone deacetylase inhibition.
Dr. Zhao has authored 37 peer-reviewed journal articles (19 first author), 11 peer-reviewed abstracts (7 first author), and has presented at 44 national, international, and local conferences (26 first author). Her published work has been cited in more than 870 scholarly articles. She has served as co-investigator on 4 research grants, including projects funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Urologic Oncology Multidisciplinary Translational Research Fund at MGH. She is also an active reviewer for more than 10 medical journals.
Her contributions have been recognized with the Excellence in Research Award from Harvard Medical School in 2013, and a stipend award from the International Society of Urological Pathology in 2024. She was one of the winners of the Association for Molecular Pathology Social Media Challenge in 2025.
