Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellow
Nationwide Children's Hospital
Powell, Ohio, United States
I am a second-year Laboratory Genetics and Genomics fellow at the Steve and Cindy Rasmussen Institute for Genomic Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I earned a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, an M.S. in Diagnostic Genetics from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from the Lerner Research Institute of Cleveland Clinic and Case Western Reserve University. My master’s thesis focused on optimizing whole-genome amplification for the development of a non-invasive prenatal test using single fetal cells from maternal circulation. For my doctoral research, I conducted genome-wide analyses of germline variants in PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome (PHTS), a rare genetic disorder associated with cancer predisposition and autism spectrum disorder, to identify genetic modifiers and develop predictive models for clinical outcomes. Following my undergraduate studies, I also completed formal training in clinical cytogenetics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and further developed my passion for cytogenomic technologies through several years of work in clinical laboratories. Building on these combined clinical and translational research experiences, I am committed to advancing cytogenomic applications and integrating molecular assays to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient care as a clinical laboratory geneticist.
