Dr. Phillip Michaels is a hematopathologist and molecular genetic pathologist at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee and completed his anatomic and clinical pathology training at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School as well as his hematopathology fellowship. He completed his molecular genetic pathology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is currently the medical director for the Translational Biomarker Core through the Center for Advanced Molecular Diagnostics at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has authored multiple publications hematopathology where molecular diagnostics played an essential role. Additionally, he has authored multiple book chapters on molecular diagnostics in hematopathology, including in the most recenter iteration of the WHO. His research interested include the utilization of molecular techniques for analyzing hematolymphoid neoplasms, assessment of tumor microenvironments in aggressive B-cell lymphomas, and exploration of genome mapping for structural variant analysis in leukemias and lymphomas. Lastly, he is a fervent supporter of medical education in molecular hematopathology and has lectured to molecular genetic pathology and hematopathology trainees on the many topics that connect the two fields.
