Scott A. Turner, PhD is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He serves as the Associate Director of Molecular Diagnostics in the Department of Pathology at VCU Health Systems (VCUHS). Dr. Turner is an ABMGG board-certified Clinical Molecular Geneticist. His clinical and translational work focuses on 1) the development of advanced clinical molecular genetics test for use in comprehensive profiling of hematologic and solid tumors and diagnosis of hereditary cancer conditions, 2) the use of laboratory automation to optimize advancing molecular laboratory workflows, 3) the standardization of classification and reporting of somatic variant. He has been an Association of Molecular Pathology (AMP) and American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) member since 2015 and served on several working groups focused on improving national guidelines for the classification and reporting of sequence variants. Dr. Turner completed his PhD in genetics at Dartmouth School of Medicine (Hanover, NH), his post-doctoral fellowship in the Center of Genomics and Translation Research at Dartmouth (Lebanon, NH), and clinical molecular genetics training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (Nashville, TN).
