Keyur Pravinchandra Patel MD PhD is a tenured professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is board-certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, hematopathology, molecular genetic pathology and clinical informatics. He holds a PhD in cell biology and molecular pathogenesis.
Dr. Patel serves as the CLIA director of the molecular diagnostics laboratory and the medical director of hematology molecular diagnostics. His prior experience includes serving as the director of molecular genetic pathology fellowship program, the director of precision oncology decision support and the patient safety and quality officer. He has led the efforts to implement high-reliability organization (HRO) principles and informatics solutions in oncology care. His clinical and translational research interests include developing innovative molecular biomarker testing for solid tumors and hematologic malignancies using next generation sequencing.
Dr. Patel is actively involved in several national and international efforts to develop guidelines for clinical molecular testing applications, variant interpretation, and molecular genetic pathology training. He is actively involved in local and national coding and reimbursement efforts to support evidence-based and sustainable biomarker testing strategies. He has contributed to more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. He is passionate about training the next generation of pathology experts.
