Description: Many who belong to one or more disenfranchised groups have been taught since birth to behave in certain ways which 1) diminish their own achievements and contributions, 2) not rock the boat or cause trouble or upset stereotyped norms and 3) not seek the assistance of others in getting support. Many don’t even realize that they are succumbing to these societal pressures. This presentation will discuss some practical ways to increase your awareness of your natural and sometimes self-defeating actions, to gracefully promote your work, and to find a mutually beneficial support system.
